Dealing With A Previous Date?

Tonight I was invited to a birthday party for the daughter of a friend of the girl I was previously dating. I took 2 gifts, one for the girl having the birthday and the other was for the girl I was previously dating thinking that she would like to get a gift as well. Ladies-Would you think this reeks of desperation or would you appreciate the kind gesture?
