"Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" TV Special?

In "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" (1964) and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" (1970), what type of animation did they use? Is it clay-mation? Can someone explain the process of animation that was used?
